What is the
National Childbirth Trust ?
The NCT
offers information and support in pregnancy, childbirth and early parenthood.
We aim to give every parent the chance to make informed choices.
Our Antenatal
teachers, breastfeeding counsellors and postnatal leaders undergo a thorough
training with the NCT although they are not required to be medically qualified.
All teachers, councellors and leaders are expected to keep up to date with
the latest developments in maternity care and must register with us every
year. Their role is to offer support, information, practical skills and resources
to help parents make informed choice for themselves and their babies. They
do not offer medical advice and parents are asked to take any questions about
medical careof mother and baby to their midwife, health visitor or doctor.
What does
the NCT do?
On a national
level, the NCT regularly works with the Department of Health on information
campaigns, has successfully led the campaign for fathers to be present at
the birth, and is working to prevent babies from being regularly taken from
mothers and put into nurseries after birth. We are currently lobbying for
breastfeeding friendly hospitals and practical help for parents, and are at
the forefront of the campaign to halt the rise in unnecessary caesareans.
Locally
we offer support, both informal and formal, for parents and carers from pregnancy
onwards.
What
does that mean for me?
We can
offer you antenatal classes, coffee mornings in your area, evenings out without
your children, Nearly New Sales and lots, lots more… We produce a quarterly
newsletter that is available to members and new members. This is full of helpful
information on what there is to do with your kids in Wolverhampton, parent-to-parent
tips, great buys, reviews, recipes, and more.
When you
become a member you will also receive 'New Gen', the National Childbirth Trust
Magazine, which has evidence based articles about pregnancy, birth and early
parenting, the campaigning work of the charity, information on products, as
well as special offers and savings.
We are
volunteer run, through a committee and several sub-groups. We enjoy a variety
of social and fundraising activities all year. If you want to help with fundraising,
